Urban farming offers no shortage of benefits, creating sources for locally grown food, alleviating food deserts, and decreasing carbon emissions by shortening distribution paths. However, there are too few individuals with urban farming training to keep up with growing demand.
To address this, Virginia State University’s College of Agriculture is now offering a semester-long course, providing a science-rich curriculum, culminating in an Urban Agriculture Certificate. This program is directed at anyone charged with managing a new urban farm or who simply wishes to expand their knowledge base to include effective and sustainable urban environment farming.
