NDSU BeefTalk: Records, a Positive Opportunity
“You can’t manage what you don’t measure,” is the advice North Dakota State University Extension Beef Specialist Kris Ringwall has for cattle farmers. For beef producers, that means moving into the 21st century, and incorporating electronic ear tags, Bluetooth technology, and wireless connections to their practices. Ringwall notes, “not all success is associated directly with meticulous recordkeeping,” but goes on to describe that “those who keep records with factual-based goals certainly will have less positive or negative surprises.” This just goes to show, the rural and urban lives aren’t so far removed from one another anymore. Now that there’s Bluetooth on farms, maybe pigs will learn to drive, if not fly.
