Delta Plantation Succeeds with Conservation Efforts
Mississippi State University is the proud parent of REACH, the Research and Education to Advance Conservation and Habitat program. Pleasant Lake Plantation in Leflore County serves as a model of sustainability and achievement within the REACH program. The plantation has about 1,700 acres, 500 of which are in row crop production, 600 acres in timber, and 110 acres in Conservation Reserve Program grassland. The plantation is “a prime example of the type of synergy between agriculture and natural resources advocated by REACH.” Other farms are joining the program, and a tangible difference can already be seen.
